Nespresso VertuoLine vs Evoluo: What's The Difference?

Nespresso VertuoLine vs Evoluo: What's the difference?

When it comes to pod or capsule-based coffee machines, I’m a Nespresso fanboy.

No other company in the niche makes machines with the same durability and reliability as Nespresso, and their coffee is the best in the capsule universe.

Don’t believe me?

Check out our Nespresso vs Keurig comparison for further proof.

If you’ve settled on Nespresso as your company of choice (good decision by the way), the next question becomes this:

OriginalLine or VertuoLine?

In this article I’ll compare 2 of the 3 different VertuoLine models:

  • Nespresso VertuoLine
  • Nespresso Evoluo

What are the similarities and differences between these machines?

And which should you choose?

Welcome to The Coffee Maven’s Nespresso VertuoLine vs Evoluo showdown.

Nespresso VertuoLine vs Evoluo: The Differences

First, a few similarities.

Both models are part of the Nespresso VertuoLine series, which features 3 different machines with 2nd generation technology. This means they differ from original Nespresso machines (dubbed “OriginalLine” models) in a 4 key ways:

  1. Capsule Scanning Technology: VertuoLine capsules have a barcode around their edge
  2. Brew 17 oz Long Coffees: OriginalLine machines maxes out at 5 oz lungo beverages
  3. 3 Capsule Sizes: Capsules come in 3 different sizes for espresso, lungo and long coffees
  4. Centrifusion: VertuoLine models don’t have a pump; instead, they utilize Centrifusion (or “rapid pod spinning”) for extraction

You can read more about the differences between Nespresso VertuoLine and OriginalLine machines in our comparison guide.

Now, the differences. There are only 3:

  1. Water Reservoir: Evoluo has a 54 oz water reservoir, 26% bigger than the VertuoLine’s
  2. Machine Size: Evoluo is a little larger and a touch heavier
  3. Power: Evoluo has a 1600W heating element versus 1350W from the VertuoLine

So, which one is right for you?

Is the VertuoLine or Evoluo Right for You?

Let’s get down to brass tacks: Which of these machines is right for you?

Choose the Nespresso VertuoLine if any of the following are true:

  • It’s cheaper than the Evoluo,
  • You want a slightly smaller machine, or
  • You want to save energy with the less powerful heating element.

Otherwise, choose the Nespresso Evoluo. Though it’s discontinued, it is the superior model and still can be found on marketplaces such as Amazon.

Our complete Nespresso Evoluo review breaks that model down so you know exactly what you’re buying.

Nespresso Vertuo

Nespresso Vertuo

Smaller 40 oz Water Reservoir
Don't let its name fool you. The Vertuo is more advanced than either the VertuoPlus or VertuoPlus Deluxe! Its 40 oz reservoir is so-so but its 1350W heating element leaves you just 15 seconds from brew-ready water.
Nespresso Evoluo
Overall

Nespresso Evoluo

Best Nespresso VertuoLine Machine
Nespresso's best VertuoLine model, the Evoluo brews 0.3-17 oz coffee with the largest reservoir (60 oz) and used capsule capacity (17) and shortest time to brew (15 seconds). If you want a VertuoLine, you want the Evoluo.

Bryan De Luca

I'm Bryan but most people know me as The Coffee Maven. I grew up outside Boston, Massachusetts and received my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Providence College. My first introduction to coffee was during my college days, when I used it as a source of caffeine to fuel late-night study sessions, but soon I became obsessed with the chemistry of coffee. How did changes to water temperature or contact time affect its taste? Why do beans from Africa taste fruity while beans from Indonesia taste spicy? I launched The Coffee Maven in February 2017 to explore these questions and help others brew their perfect cup. Welcome to my site, and thanks for reading!
