Nespresso Atelier Overview

The Atelier isn't Nespresso's first foray into one-button specialty beverages — the Lattissima series already handles that masterfully — so what makes the Atelier stand out?

  • Slimmer (4.7"W vs 6.1"W)
  • Sleeker, more modern design
  • Removable frothing arm/whisk when not in use
  • Atelier offers cold frothing whereas Lattissima models don't

There are other differences, such as the Atelier's smaller water reservoir, but those are the major ones that would dictate which premium Nespresso machine is better for you.

Oh, and I guess there's one other difference: The Atelier only is available in Europe and Asia.

Pros
  • Simple one-button operation
  • 9 different drinks, including hot and cold foam, with the push of a button
  • Uses Nespresso OriginalLine capsules, which means no DRM capsule-scanning technology to lock out 3rd party capsules
  • Frothing arm and whisk detaches and hides away in a storage compartment behind the water tank when not in use
Cons
  • ABS plastic polymer casing doesn't have the premium feel of the stainless steel on the Creatista series
  • Doesn't brew traditional long coffee
  • Frothing works best with a specific Nespresso brand mug with a 7 cm opening
  • Not available in North America or Australia

Is the Nespresso Atelier for you?

Are Nespresso Atelier for you?

If you live in Europe or Asia and are shopping for one-touch coffee convenience, your choice comes down to the Atelier or one of Nespresso's various Lattissima models.

Which is right for you?

  • If you want the added option of cold foam beverages like iced frappes or lattes, go with the Atelier.
  • If cold beverages don't appeal to you, I think the Lattissima models offer more convenience and better performance at a similar price point.

If you live in the United States, Canada, Australia, South America, or anywhere else in the world, Nespresso has made the decision for you: Lattissima series it is!

Volluto Decaffeinato (Intensity: 4) is the decaffeinated version of our favorite espresso capsule. It delivers the sweet yet rich flavor of Volluto's low-intensity, balanced roast without the jitters.

About The Coffee Maven
bryan de luca
Bryan De Luca

I'm Bryan but most people know me as The Coffee Maven. I grew up outside Boston, Massachusetts and received my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Providence College. My first introduction to coffee was during my college days, when I used it as a source of caffeine to fuel late-night study sessions, but soon I became obsessed with the chemistry of coffee. How did changes to water temperature or contact time affect its taste? Why do beans from Africa taste fruity while beans from Indonesia taste spicy? I launched The Coffee Maven in February 2017 to explore these questions and help others brew their perfect cup. Welcome to my site, and thanks for reading!
