Nespresso Lattissima Pro Overview

Nespresso has two lines of capsule-based espresso machines:

  • OriginalLine: Their original line (duh) that used a 19 bar pump to extract shots from capsules
  • VertuoLine: Their new line that uses Centrifusion (rapid capsule spinning) to extract shots from barcode-enabled capsules but also brews standard coffee up to 17 oz

For our money, OriginalLine machines are better than VertuoLine machines because their pump produces more authentic espresso, the coffee tends to be hotter, and there's no barcode scanning system meaning you can find less-expensive third-party capsules.

For our money, OriginalLine machines are better than VertuoLine machines because their pump produces more authentic espresso, the coffee tends to be hotter, and there's no barcode scanning system meaning you can find less-expensive third-party capsules.

And among OriginalLine machines, there are 2 series that stand above all others:

  • Lattissima machines with integrated frothers that brew specialty beverages with the push of a single button
  • Creatista machines with integrated frothing wands for a more manual frothing experience, as if you were a true barista

The Lattissima One is part of that first series (obviously), which is made up of 5 different models:

We'll compare all 5 models in our Buyer's Guide below.

Depending on who you ask, either the Lattissima Pro or Gran Lattissima is the top-end Lattissima model. The Gran Lattissima came out later and has 9 preset beverage recipes, but the Pro is the only model with a digital touchscreen display. Both have just about the same water reservoir and milk container volumes. The Pro gets the edge on spent capsule capacity.

Pros
  • Actual pump pressure is better than VertuoLine Centrifusion
  • Integrated one-touch milk frother makes specialty beverages easily
  • Large 17 oz milk container
  • Solid internal construction means it won't break down quickly
  • Can used 3rd-party capsules
Cons
  • Stated 19 bars is inconsistent
  • ABS plastic scuffs a little easily

The best Lattissima model (before the Gran Lattissima came out), the Pro has the largest water reservoir and milk container capacity (close enough) with 6 preset brew sizes with a digital touchscreen display.

If you want the latest and greatest from Nespresso with 9 preset brew sizes, go with the Gran Lattissima.

If you don't need the capacity for 4 specialty beverages and/or a button display is fine with you, downgrade to the Lattissima Touch.

If you want the option to have manual control over your frothing, you'll want to check out one of the 3 Creatista Series machines.

About The Coffee Maven
bryan de luca
Bryan De Luca

I'm Bryan but most people know me as The Coffee Maven. I grew up outside Boston, Massachusetts and received my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Providence College. My first introduction to coffee was during my college days, when I used it as a source of caffeine to fuel late-night study sessions, but soon I became obsessed with the chemistry of coffee. How did changes to water temperature or contact time affect its taste? Why do beans from Africa taste fruity while beans from Indonesia taste spicy? I launched The Coffee Maven in February 2017 to explore these questions and help others brew their perfect cup. Welcome to my site, and thanks for reading!
